Nontopological zero-bias peaks in full-shell nanowires induced by flux-tunable Andreev states

چکیده

A Majorana look-alike Most experimental claims of bound states, unusual quasiparticles that may become the cornerstone topological quantum computing, rest on observation a persistent zero bias peak (ZBP) in tunneling spectra. In semiconductor–superconductor heterostructures, this feature also be caused by topologically trivial Andreev states. Valentini et al. provide comprehensive evidence ZBPs observed their experiments with semiconductor nanowires fully coated superconducting shell are indeed origin, contrast to interpretation similar earlier experiments. The researchers identify length tunnel junction devices as crucial parameter. Science , abf1513, issue p. 82

New Andreev-type states in superconducting nanowires.

Superconducting nanowires can exhibit a spatially inhomogeneous pair condensate that leads to the formation of new Andreev-type states. Such states are mainly located beyond the regions where the order parameter is enhanced, and no normal-superconducting contact or external magnetic field is needed for their formation. Our numerical self-consistent solutions of the Bogoliubov-de Gennes equation...

Zero-energy Andreev surface bound states in the lattice model

The conditions for zero-energy Andreev surface bound states to exist are found for the lattice model of d-wave superconductor with arbitrary surface orientation. Both nearest neighbors and next nearest neighbors models are considered. It is shown that the results are very sensitive to the surface orientation. In particular, for half-filled (hl0)-surface zero-energy Andreev surface states only a...

Kondo-like zero-bias conductance anomaly in a three-dimensional topological insulator nanowire

Zero-bias anomalies in topological nanowires have recently captured significant attention, as they are possible signatures of Majorana modes. Yet there are many other possible origins of zero-bias peaks in nanowires--for example, weak localization, Andreev bound states, or the Kondo effect. Here, we discuss observations of differential-conductance peaks at zero-bias voltage in non-superconducti...

Bending and Shell Formation of Tellurium Nanowires Induced by Thiols

The reactivity of tellurium nanowires (Te NWs) with thiol-containing molecules was probed. Depending upon the presence or absence of the stabilizing surfactant in the solution, the product differs drastically. When excess surfactant was present, the reaction resulted in a core-shell-like structure. Through various spectroscopic andmicroscopic techniques, it was understood that there is a redox ...

Zero-bias peaks in the tunneling conductance of spin-orbit-coupled superconducting wires with and without Majorana end-states.

One of the simplest proposed experimental probes of a Majorana bound state is a quantized (2e(2)/h) value of zero-bias tunneling conductance. When temperature is somewhat larger than the intrinsic width of the Majorana peak, conductance is no longer quantized, but a zero-bias peak can remain. Such a nonquantized zero-bias peak has been recently reported for semiconducting nanowires with proximi...
